Lutheran Disaster Response

The ELCA‘s Disaster Response is activated to aid the people affected by Hurricane Harvey and their long journey to recovery – weeks, months, and years. 100% of donations given to the Hurricane Harvey Disaster Response go to provide immediate and long-lasting support. St. James will collect donations specifically designated for this disaster, both with envelopes and our “Loose Change Jar.”   If you donate by check, please make the check payable to St. James Lutheran Church and at the end of October, St. James will send one check payable to the Lutheran Disaster Response Hurricane Harvey to the Synod. Our prayers are also needed for the people who have been affected. May God’s healing presence give them peace and hope in their time of need.   Cathy Riches, Lay Council President

Several weeks after Hurricane Harvey dumped 50 inches of rain on parts of the state, and subsequent flooding left more than 70 people dead, flooding homes,  and displacing more than a million people, now the impact of standing water has made people sick. Various neighborhoods in Houston were tested and showed levels of e-coli that were 135 times more than what is considered safe. Conditions inside warm, humid houses are ideal for bacteria to grow. Outside the flooded area, local churches have formed “Bucket Brigades” – buckets filled with cleaning supplies. They are prayed over and distributed to appreciative families.

I am thankful to say that to date St. James members and friends have donated $530.00 towards the ELCA Hurricane Harvey Disaster Fund. Cash, checks, and coin contributions are welcome!                               Cathy Riches, Lay Council President

REMINDER -- Sunday, October 8th St. James will be celebrating Harvest Home, which is the close of the harvest season. Collected funds will be sent to SpiriTrust Lutheran York County, while collected canned goods will go to the Eastern York Food Pantry.

THE EASTERN YORK FOOD PANTRY continues to serve the needs of those in the Eastern York School District area. Any food items would be greatly appreciated.

CALLING ANYONE WHO LIKES TO COOK, BAKE, AND WORK IN THE KITCHEN -- St. James Christian Fellowship Committee is seeking new members. Health issues have taken a toll on our group, and in order for St. James to continue having get togethers we need more help. Please speak to Erika Pennachio if you can help.
